Gauja XXL 2010. Statute

This is a relay team competition along the whole length of the Gauja river, total 429 km. This is multiday paddling Marathon, which is intended to set first record in this distance. The competition begins at the bridge near Lode bridge (Taurene) and will finish near Gauja inflow into the sea.
 
You may chose full distance 420 km (8x50 km), shortened distance of 210 km (4x50 km) and the popular class 100 km (4x25 km).
 
Apart from the relay is organized an individual competition for strongest paddlers Gauja XXL Special310 km with mandatory stop at defined checkpoint (see Annex 2)
 
2. Place and Time
River Gauja: from Lode brige to the river estuary into the sea. Technical data, distribution of legs and  approx. km per you can fond in Annex 1.
If you want to participate in 420 km (8x50 km) distance, and wish to attend the previous evening (recommended), will be possibility to build your own tent near the starting place, just check the box on registration form.
Starting line:
Lode bridge (420 km (8X50 km) May 1, start at 7:00.
Spicrāmis (200 km (4x50 km) May 2 start at 15:00.
Raiskums bridge Cesis (100 km (4x25 km)) May 3 start at 7:00.
Lejasciems bridge (Gauja XXL Special (310 km) May 2, start at 5:00 (see Annex 2)
Finish line:
Close to Riga - Tallinn highway bridge
Monday, May 3 from 20:00 to May 4 5:00  
Intermediate stops (checkpoints) and control times
There are number  intermediate stops along the distance, changing participants is allowed only in these stops.

3. Paricipants
The participant is anyone who is knows his/her ability to cover the distance, agrees this Statute and Annexes in is filled the registration form.
Teams
The team consists of least of 2 boats and at least of 4 people, and at least of one support vehicle. The team may not have more than 2 boats from the same class. At 420 km and 210 km distances teams must have at least two different boats one of which is a double. (Except for 320 km and 100 km distances, where a team have a one boat only.)
Children under 16 years old can start only together with adults. If an adult is not the father or mother, child must have parental permission for participation together with a specified person.
 
4. Formula
Relay competitions are organized in the form of three degrees of difficulty – 420 km, 210 km and 100 km.
420 km (8 X 50 km) distance - at least 2 times each of the boat should be used and each participant should travel at least 2 legs. At night stages each team should run double boat (or two single).
210 km (4 x 50 km) distance - at least 1 time each boat should be used and each participant must travel at least 1 leg. At  night stages each team should run double boat (or two single).
100 km (4 x 25 km) distance - at least 1 time each boat should be used and each participant must travel at least 1 stage.
310 km distance – see Annex 2
At all classes, the participants are prohibited to run 2 consecutive legs.
Whole distances have eight (420 km distance) or four (210 and 100 km distance), or one special (310 km) checkpoint, reducing number of checkpoints is not allowed, exchange of participants is allowed only at checkpoints. Winner is the team that first arrives at finish and is taken all steps.
 
5. Competition and the rules

5.1 General Provisions
The winner will be determined from the teams (relay) - the team that finishes first, it is the champion. 310 km distance – see Annex 2.
5.2. Starting procedure
Participants of first leg will be issued a relay bullet and given common start. At next checkpoint participant of leg one will have the finish and relay bullet passes to participant of leg two un he/she begins leg two. Thus, the participants changes at every checkpoint until whole distance is behind, according to point 4 of this Statute. At the finish relay bullet passes to judge. (Starting sequence, length of legs and approx. changing times is shown on Annex 1.)
5.2.1 Communication
At every checkpoint teams are required to call the Judge via cell phone (or send an SMS). If commutating does not happen at times, given on Annex 1 (+ / - 1 h), the team should be disqualified.
5.3.Equipment
5.3.1. General rules
Participants should have own or rented equipment. The organizers will not provide any kind of equipment.  
5.3.2. Boats
Any kayak (single or double),  canoe (single or double). Can be used boats for slalom and marathon, tourist boats are allowed, if the team believes that they can carry distance. Olympic flatwater boats, motors, sails and other means of propulsion is not allowed. For canoes kayak paddles are not allowed.
Boats that could sink after rollover should be provided with additional floating aid. Replacement of the boat and paddle during the race is not allowed.
5.3.3. Minimum equipment (310 km distance – see Annex 2)
Life jacket (participation without life jacket is not admitted)
Spare clothes, waterproof packed.
Enabled mobile phone with charged batteries
First aid kit
Drinking water (1 l per participant)
Food
Matches in a waterproof container,
5.4. Auxiliary support
Team should not provide any kind of help or support during the race, except at checkpoints, form start to intermediate finish (checkpoint) participants operating absolutely autonomous. Adding food or drink, changing paddles or boat during stage is not allowed.  If team receiving assistance form side, it should be disqualified. Any kind of assistance is allowed only at checkpoints.
5.5. Food at at checkpoints
Organizers provide meals for participants at one checkpoint and at the finish. There will be a hot soup at checkpoint Strenči and at the finish.
5.6. Help on the distance
Organizers will not provide collecting of withdrawn participants and teems, this is done by the team themselves.  About all accidents, withdrawal, or other changes in their plans participants must notify the Judge. of the competition. Misreporting may lead to disqualification.  
Participants are required to assist in any accident (boat overturned, injured people and so on. The failure to provide emergency assistance and leaving victims helpless should lead to disqualification for life.   
 
6. Prize
Champion of each class or distance will be awarded with diplomas and souvenir prizes.
 
7. Registration
To participate the race, you should complete an application form and pay participation fee.
7.1 Participation Fee
Participation fee is 8 LVL (eight lats) per person (including support stuff) to February 10, then 10 LVL (ten lats). This amount covers organizational costs, food (soup 2x), prizes and sauna at finish, if it will be possible. The participation fee is not include transportation of participants and related equipment.

8. Results
 The official race results will be published on the website www.laivas.lv. A summary will be available immediately after the finish.
 
9. Responsibility
9.1. The accuracy of data submitted, trauma and self-risk
Participants are responsible for the submitted data.
Signature below certifies that the participant agrees this Statute and its Annexes 1 un 2, as well as no claims will be brought against organizers after the race according to distance, injuries, damages and lost equipment, caused by the negligence of participants themselves, resulted from overload or malignancy of other teams.
9.2. Maintenance of equipment
Organizers is not responsible for property of participants, for storage or guarding the equipment.
